Week 15: Exploring the World
Your baby is now 15 weeks old, and each day brings new discoveries. Their growing awareness of the world around them is evident in their movements, sounds, and interactions. This week is about embracing these changes and supporting your baby's development with love and patience.
Development
At 15 weeks, your baby's physical activity is increasing. You may notice more leg kicking, arm waving, and general wriggling as they explore their body's capabilities. Their grasp reflex is improving, allowing them to hold onto toys or pull cloths to their mouth. This exploration is a crucial part of their sensory development.
Your baby is also becoming more expressive. They might respond to familiar songs or games with coos and babbles, showing early signs of anticipation. Their facial expressions are more varied, and they may begin to mimic your smiles and frowns, strengthening the bond between you.
Sleep
Sleep patterns can vary at this stage. Some babies may experience lighter naps or seem more easily startled awake. Increased movement during sleep, such as rolling or flailing arms, is common and indicates healthy neurological development.
Evening fussiness might still be present, often peaking around this time. Offering closeness, a calm environment, and gentle soothing can help ease your baby through these periods. Remember, contact naps or co-sleeping, when practiced safely, can be beneficial for both of you.
Feeding
Feeding continues to be a central part of your baby's routine. You might notice that feeds become more efficient, with your baby latching and finishing more quickly. However, distractions during daytime feeds are common, as your baby's curiosity about their surroundings grows.
Cluster feeding in the evening remains normal. It's your baby's way of preparing for longer night stretches and seeking comfort after a stimulating day. While your baby may show interest in watching you eat, it's important to wait until around six months before introducing solids.
Play and Interaction
Your baby's play is becoming more interactive. They enjoy repetitive games, cause-and-effect toys, and baby-safe objects they can grasp. Singing songs or reciting rhymes can elicit joyful responses, and your baby may start to turn toward sounds or track familiar voices.
Tummy time continues to be essential. Your baby might try to move forward or attempt a mini roll. Always supervise these sessions and watch for signs that your baby has had enough, such as fussiness or turning away.
Top Tip of the Week

Real Life Reflections
This week can feel like a balancing act. Your baby is more alert and engaged, which is delightful but can also be exhausting. It's okay to feel overwhelmed. Remember to take breaks when you can, and don't hesitate to ask for help. Your well-being is just as important as your baby's.
Looking Ahead
In the coming weeks, expect more milestones, such as rolling over and increased vocalizations. Your baby's sleep and feeding patterns may continue to evolve. Stay flexible and responsive to their needs, and continue to provide a nurturing environment for their growth.
